Tour Overview

Day 1

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, travel south westwards to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a mini stop at the Equator and a lunch stop later on in Mbarara. Your day’s long journey to Bwindi will reward you with sights of the Ankole long horned cattle and a fascinating scenery of the rolling hills in the Kigezi region. Arrive in Bwindi in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at Gorilla Forest Camp/ Volcanoes Bwindi Camp/Mantana Tented Camp (Luxury)/ Lake Kitandara Bwindi Camp (mid-range)/Buhoma Community Campsite/Bandas (Budget rooms)
Day 2

Mountain Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing from the senior park ranger guide at the park headquarters. At 8.30, set off on the gorilla trekking tour in the impenetrable forest. A search for the habituated gorilla family is not predictable; it may take between 2 hours to a full day of searching for these apes within this dense forest. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Gorilla Forest Camp/ Volcanoes Bwindi Camp/Mantana Tented Camp (Luxury)/ Lake Kitandara Bwindi Camp (mid-range)/Buhoma Community Campsite/Bandas (Budget rooms)
Day 03

Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, we will drive through the Kigezi region; well know as the “Switzerland of Africa”, to the magnificent Lake Bunyonyi. This lake is a result of the lava flow from one of the Virunga Mountains, which blocked off the Ndego River to create a natural dam. Dotted with at least 20 small islands and encircled by steep terraced hills, Bunyonyi is a magical spot. Bilharzia is reliably reported to be absent from the lake, as are crocodiles and hippos, which means swimming is very safe. Active travelers are catered for, with kayaks, canoes, and mountain bikes available for hire, and enough potential excursions to keep one busy for days. Bunyonyi translates to ‘place of little birds’, which refers to the prolific weaver colonies along its shores, but larger birds are also represented by the likes of grey-crowned crane and a variety of herons and egrets. It is probably the best place in Africa to see otters – the diurnal spotted-necked otter in particular – with several pairs residing around Rutinda and nearby islands. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Arcadia Cottages (Full Board)
Day 04

Transfer to Kampala and Later to Entebbe

After breakfast, start your journey back to Kampala with a lunch stop in Mbarara and later another brief stop at the equator. You will arrive in Kampala in the evening and retire to your hotel or transfer to Entebbe for your departure flight.

  • You need to wear a long sleeved shirt and long trousers (can be either Khaki zip-up trousers or jeans). Both long trousers and long sleeved shirts will protect you from branches, nettles, thorns or anything else that can prick/scratch you.
  • Bright colors should be avoided while carrying out safari activities in the jungle, but these can be used while enjoying a dinner back at the lodge. Neutral colors like light brown, green, Khaki are good for safari activities during the day and they are highly recommended all over Africa (in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Botswana, etc). Black and blue shirts are not recommended for the jungle as they attract tsetse flies and other insects.
  • During the trek, you will come across different insects, and thus you should wear a lot of insect repellent for protection.
